Swachh Bharat Abhiyan

By Dr IM  |  09:14 No comments

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is a mission initiated by the Government of India, and it is covering 4,041 cities and towns, to clean the streets, roads and infrastructure of the country.
It was launched on 2 October 2014, at Rajghat, New Delhi , by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi , which aims to eliminate open defecation from our country by 2019. It is the country’s biggest ever cleanliness initiative and about 3 million government employees and school and college students of India are participating in this event.

Building toilets in rural areas is the very first and major concern for Swachh Bharat Mission.
Narendra himself stated in his speech the importance of toilets in rural areas and in rural schools-
When the girl student reaches the age where she realizes this lack of female toilets in the school she leaves her education midway. As they leave their education midway they remain uneducated. They must also get equal chance to quality education. After 60 years of independence there should have been separate toilets for girl students in every school. But for the past 60 years they could not provide separate toilets to girls.

-Narendra Modi
The government planned to construct 12 million toilets in rural India to make the country Open-Defecation Free (ODF) by 2 October 2019, the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, at a projected cost of 1.96 lakh crore.
The government provides an incentive of Rs.15,000 for each toilet constructed by a family.

Between April 2014 and January 2015, 3,183,000 toilets were built. Karnataka led all States in construction of toilets under the programme. As of August 2015, 8 million toilets have been constructed under the program. As of 27 October 2016, 56 districts in India were ODF.
The programme was funded and technically supported by the World Bank, corporations as part of corporate social responsibility initiatives, and by state governments under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan schemes.
Government and the World Bank signed a US$1.5 billion loan agreement on 30 March 2016 for the Swachh Bharat Mission to support India's sanitation initiative.

In order to promote Swachh Bharat Mission various activities took place:

Swachh Bharat Run

A Swachh Bharat Run was organized at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on 2 October 2014. According to a statement from the Rashtrapati Bhavan around 1500 people participated and the event was flagged off by President Pranab Mukherjee. Participants in the run included officers and their families.

Anthem
Swachh Bharat Ka Irada,
Irada kar liya humne desh se apne ye vada,
ye vada kar liya humne.

Humse niklegi swachhta ki ek nadi,
chal-chal-chal, kal-kal-kal,
Ek dhuli si jindagi.
Swachhta ki jyot lekar ghar-ghar jayenge,
saaf suthri Roshni mein sab nahayenge.

Swachh Bharat Ka Irada,
Irada kar liya humne desh se apne vada,
Ye vada kar liya humne.

Har gali ab unnati ki raah jayegi, (Jayegi..)
Dhoop asha ki aangan aangan gayegi, (Gayegi..)

swapna Gandhi Ji ka, ab sakar karna hai,
Swachhta ka desh mein ab tyohaar karna hai.

Khud se hi karni hogi shuruaat,
banaye Swachh Bharat saath-saath.
Ek pavitra si hawa bahegi,
Ujjwal-Ujjwal ho Bharat.
Kona-kona nirmal hoga,
Vishwa kahega jay Bharat.
